Environment Policy 2023

At Yelverton Brook Conservation Sanctuary, we are deeply committed to environmental sustainability and conservation. We take immense pride in our accomplishments, having entered the Hall of Fame and holding the highest eco certification in Australia for an incredible 20 years.

Our dedication to the environment is reflected in the following key principles:

Waste Minimization:

We strive to minimize waste by utilizing recycled materials whenever possible and actively engaging in comprehensive recycling practices. We encourage our valued guests to join us in our waste reduction efforts including even Chicken Scrap buckets and play an active role in achieving our waste management targets.

Water, Energy, and Material Conservation:

We are committed to conserving precious resources such as water, energy, and materials. Through mindful consumption practices, we aim to minimize our ecological footprint and promote sustainable resource management throughout our operations.

Pollution Prevention:

We are unwavering in our commitment to minimizing pollution and ensuring compliance with government regulations. Our team consistently is very careful in minimizing chemical usage where possible, and we proactively upgrade our facilities as needed to uphold these environmental responsibilities.

Eg – Hand weeding within sanctuary where possible.

Recycled Paper Products:

In an effort to reduce the demand for virgin materials and support sustainable forestry, we have made a conscious decision to replace conventional paper products with suitable recycled alternatives throughout our sanctuary. Eg like choosing “Who Gives a Crap” products.

Protection of Native Fauna:

Preserving the delicate balance of our ecosystem is of paramount importance to us. We maintain a predator-proof fence to safeguard the native fauna, and we actively work towards re-introducing missing small native species, aiming to restore our bushland to its former “Eden Status.”

No domestic pets are allowed on this property (eg: cats & dogs)

Specialist feed in small quantities is supplied for guests with feeding notes, this discourages guests feeding unsuitable food.

Environmentally Friendly Cleaning Products:

We utilize cleaning products based on fiber technology, essential oils, and organic ingredients. By opting for these environmentally friendly alternatives, we minimize the negative impact of harmful chemicals on our surroundings while maintaining a clean and inviting sanctuary for our guests.

Noise Management:

To enhance the tranquility of our sanctuary, we keep machinery-based noise to an absolute minimum. We encourage our guests to embrace the peace and quiet, enabling them to fully immerse themselves in the soothing sounds of nature.

Collaboration and Education:

We actively engage with other environmentally focused operators, fostering partnerships and sharing knowledge for the benefit of our environment. Our dedicated staff receives ongoing education and training on our environmental principles, ensuring that they are equipped to uphold our commitment to sustainability.

Support for Local Initiatives:

We take pride in employing local staff and supporting local environmental groups like FAWNA with our guests 10c recycling bottles and cans. By prioritizing locally produced goods and services, as well as Western Australian or Australian owned companies and businesses, we actively contribute to the growth and well-being of our community.

Continuous Improvement:

We continuously review our operations, measuring our environmental impact, and identifying areas for improvement. By adhering to best practices and striving for excellence, we ensure that our sanctuary remains a shining example of environmental stewardship.
